Arrrrrrrgh me mateys!!! Hello to all and hope you're doing well. Gavin and I had a great time in the playroom this weekend, especially with the new pirate costume he loved putting on. Tentative about it for a few seconds, but he couldn't resist the pants and shirt (and belt!) once he had the three pointed hat on. Mom looked lovely in the Jack Sparrow-esque head wrap with hair and beads hanging down the front on each side. G loved it! We "set sail" on our trampoline "ship" and were off...drawing treasure maps, cutting out paper gold and rubies and searching for our picnic basket "treasure chest". It was fabulous!!
Saturday was our first visit to the Firefighter Museum where Gavin and Sam attentively listened to the retired firefighters' description of different OLD firetrucks and different tools, photos, uniforms, etc. around the old firehouse, now just used for the museum. The boys LOVED trying on hats, practicing calling 911 (and each responding to the emergency as the fire fighter) and eventually using the bedroom "set" to call for help out the window and have fire fighter Colleen come rescue them. Gavin eventually even tried on the big fire fighter's coat, hat, and tried sliding down the firepoll with much encouragement from mom!! They both loved their sticker "badges" they got when we left and said they loved the visit.
Dad let them help pull up old flowers and plant a few bulbs, which turned into pumpkin bowling as they rolled our little pumpkins down the front walk. This activity grew and changed and maintained Gavin's attention for quite a while. 30 minutes or more. This is awesome as he often would lose interest and move on to something else alone or move in and out of interaction with us.
So it was a wonderful warm, fall weekend. Our new volunteers are doing awesome and continuing to show up and remain dedicated. We now have a team of SIX volunteers, plus Dave and myself. Thank you to all of you!!! We are so appreciative!
